The Florida A&M University (FAMU)- Bond Community Health Center COVID-19 Testing Site will now be conducting as many as 400 tests per day as it extends operations until at least May 21.
“The expansion to May 21 is indicative of the continued need for testing in our county,” said Cynthia Harris, Ph.D., director of the FAMU Public Health Institute and one of the organizers of the Bragg Memorial Stadium test site, which has doubled its capacity to 400 tests daily since it first opened. “We want to be in a position so we don’t have to turn anybody away on any given day,” Harris added. “We will continue to serve the residents of Tallahassee and any outlying areas with compassion and love.”
The expansion of the walk-up site allows more people to get tested as the community begins the second week of Phase 1 of the state’s easing of some restrictions on restaurants and other businesses.
Testing is free. No physician referral is required. Test results should be returned in a minimum of 72 hours. The Leon County Health Department will notify those whose test is positive, while Bond staff will call those whose test is negative.
FAMU President Larry Robinson, Ph.D., emphasized the University’s commitment to testing and thanked Bond Community Health Center, the Leon County Health Department, the State Division of Emergency Management, the National Guard and other partners for their contributions to the success of the site.
“Florida A&M University is committed to providing the services needed to extend Bragg Stadium COVID-19 operations,” Robinson said. “This site has been of great benefit to our local community and citizens who arrived from multiple locations in the region.”
Since the site opened on Saturday, April 25, more than 4,000 individuals have been tested.
The site accommodates walk-ups and appointments. Residents can schedule an appointment by calling the Leon County Health Department at 850-404-6399.
